The Parts of the Flower
- The reason most people and other animals are attracted to flowers is for their petals. Petals are the colorful outside of the flower.
- There is a male and female part of the flower.
- The male part is the stamen. The stamen holds pollen. There are many stamens in one flower *At the tip of each stamen is something that's called an anther.
- Pollen-is a grainy, often yellow powder, made in a tissue at the top of each stamen.
- Pistils are the female parts of the flower. They produce eggs. They are a bottle shape with a wide bottom and a thin stem. They produce the eggs (which are at the bottom of the pistil). *The tip of the pistil is called the stigma.
- Not all flowers need both stamens and pistils. Some only have one. Those that only have one of these are called imperfect flowers. Others that have both are called perfect flowers.
